Torches

by Lanny D

Emerging from the fiery fog

On a blanket of snow white stallions

Armed to the clouds, faces fixed

Beware the phantom Battalion

They’ve come with fingers pointed

Blame ready to be dispersed

Excuses no longer being accepted

The weakest are hunted first

The ones who resist the least

And live life without thinking

Who always mess themselves

And blame the others for stinking

The silence was almost overwhelming

As the riders of the realm depart

And somewhere amongst the bodies

The faint beating of a  survivor’s heart.

Hold on!
